Kelso's Choices

Conflict Management Skills Program

About Kelso's Choices

Conflict or disagreement is normal and often happens when children get together. However, hurtful words, gestures, or physical attack are unacceptable ways to deal with conflict and disagreement at school.

My goal is to teach students positive ways to deal with these situations. To do this, I use “Kelso's Choice,” a conflict management program for children. It teaches students the difference between "big" problems (problems they should get an adult's help with) and "small" problems (things they can solve all by themselves). This program empowers students to make good choices and to become excellent problem solvers! When faced with “small” problems students are encouraged to try two of the nine “Kelso Choices.”

By using “Kelso Choices” I believe our students will develop effective problem solving skills that they can use again and again. It will help them deal with conflict in a positive manner and learn to make appropriate choices. I encourage parents to become familiar with this program and use it in their home. By working together, we can develop a healthy life skill for young people to use at home and at school.
